Miditina is an English concertina-based control surface designed for CoreMIDI integration.
It functions as a controller and does not produce sound independently. Instead, it facilitates the performance of hardware or software VST-style MIDI synthesizers through CoreMIDI hardware interfaces connected via the dock connector or via virtual MIDI instruments hosted on the device, such as the CelticSounds app, IK Multimedia SampleTank, or Sonosaurus ThumbJam.
The device’s transpose range spans up to two octaves in semitone steps, adjustable via the "Transpose (semitones)" slider found in the settings menu.
Additionally, during performance, users can send real-time MIDI messages for volume, expression, modulation, or wind controller controls by tilting the device to the right or left, enabling expressive playing.
Configuration for compatibility with popular synth apps includes:
- IK Multimedia SampleTank: Enable "Background Audio" in Settings (tap the gear icon).
- Sonosaurus ThumbJam: In "Prefs," under "MIDI Control," activate "Use CoreMIDI" and "Active in Background."
Other CoreMIDI-compatible synth applications typically require similar configuration adjustments.
